I took my two older girls, Henrietta and The Cheeper, outside for the first time yesterday. I let them roam around in the vegetable garden. Or what will be this year's vegetable garden. I guess this could be considered my first garden update too as you the new reaise beds I'm building ando how I'm filling them with soil. My hens had a great time out. They mostly took a dust bath. There weren't too many insects for them to chase so they mostly sun themselves in the dirt. I don't think chickens take water baths. They've never been interested in the shallow pails of water I give them unlike my pigeons that love them. But dust baths are just as effective at detering parasites. So far they're mostly indoor chickens so they are clean and I haven't seen any mites on them. They're so little. They're Rhode Island Reds. I can't wait until they get big and start to lay eggs.
