This is my first Q&A clip. Chu Sau Lei Wing Chun is different to most of the Wing Cun styles you see. We focus on being very functional in our training and application. Therefore I often have people say they can''t see where the Wing Chun is in our sparring and fighting. So in this clip I address that question

  • Its progression training for timing and control. We still use them at times - just because something is basic it doesn't mean it does not have levels and layers too it. The hand movement in wing chun help you learn move about your space and positioning.

  • Yes I agree with you. I only say beginners techniques in terms of the basic applications. Of course the punching I show is the more subtle flow of control as used in the basic Pak lap etc. Ugly is all we know lol

  • This is true. The important thing is know why you are doing what you are doing

  • You my friend get it! Great explanation! Let the haters hate . The proof is in the pudding. Keep doing what you do.

  • You say that pak sau lap sau and bong sau are just training methods and that eventually they all blend together as a version cutting punch. If they are all going to become variations of cutting punch then what is the point of pak lap and bong? you spend all this time shaping your hand to do the pak lap and bong only to not use it? Why not just spend all the time doing cutting punch instead of practicing it on things you don't use?

  • In my mind, bong sau, lop sau and pak sau aren't beginners techniques, as you progress the techniques become more subtle, they flow so that they are not clearly recognisable but they are still there. By the way your Wing Chun is ugly but that isn't a bad thing. LOL

  • Nice - thanks for posting and for explanation

  • Great video Alan, its nice to see some chu sau lei on youtube. Look forward to see more :)

  • If you can lay on the pressure and still be relaxed doing it, it's Wing Chun. Doesn't matter what it looks like. Kernsprecht looks different from Leung Ting, looks different from Wong Sheung Leung, looks different from Chu Shong Tin, etc... .
