Don't want to rock the boat here, but, even I thought the loop manouver was instigated a tad early, as the height didn't look particularly adequate to start with. I sometime think that pilots trust the dials too much, in a display situation, and actually fail to properly judge the situation with the best piece of kit they have; "The mark one, Eyeball"...

I love the fact he just sat there calmly until the end and just pulls the lever that ejects him out in a casual way on the LAST possible second lol.
As if he's going like "oh well, here we go again, im pulling out..."

i think i know what happened here, his altimeter was set for mean sea level, not for the place he took off from. for the record, im not a pilot, i just saw the documentary on discovery..:)

Why does everyone comment that he looked calm? How would anyone know what the hell his facial expressions look like? He could've totally been freaking out and no one would know.
What do people expect him to do in a tiny cockpit? Flail his arms around like gumby?
