There are many indicators that we are now living unsustainably. Two indicators are increasing CO2 in the atmosphere and the peaking of oil, a resource on which our food supply is critically dependent. The fundamental drivers of this unsustainability are continuing population growth and growth in per capita environmental demand. Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) is a national environmental organisation committed to building a sustainable Australia in a sustainable world. Our primary focus is on the first two drivers above. Address by Dr. Phil Lawn, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Economics, Flinders University, who spoke on the issue of population and economic growth.
