Jan Erik Vold (born 1939 in Oslo, Norway) reads his own poem "Et nytt møte" ("A new meeting") to the tune "Blåmann, Blåmann", played by jazz musicians Jan Allan (trumpet), Egil Kapstad (piano), Jacob Young (guitar) and Terje Venaas (bass). The occasion for this performance in the talkshow "Store studio" on NRK, February 2, 2008, was to commemorate that it was 20 years since Jan Erik Vold recorded the album "Blåmann! Blåmann!" in Paris with Chet Baker on trumpet and Philip Catherine on guitar, and with the same two as now on piano and bass, Kapstad and Venaas. This poem/song was the opening track on that album.
"Blåmann, Blåmann" ("Blue man, Blue man", the name of a goat in the song) is a Norwegian children's song with melody by Anne Haavie (1809-1888) and lyrics by Aasmund Olavsson Vinje (1818-1870).
Selv om ingen kan erstatte Chet vil jeg si at Jan gjør en storartet jobb! Kan ikke se for meg en annen norsk musiker som kan gjøre noe liknende. Vakkert! Nydelig framføring av alle sammen.
