@goallnight I know exactly what you mean. There's an incredible subtlety and fluidity about Michael's playing. He's always struck me as a tortured soul in earthly terms, but whose playing transcends everything. There are some incredible players since, the likes of Vai, Satriani, Malmsteen etc. but the beautiful phrasing of Michael's soloing places him above all for me.

Being brilliant is a double edge sword for Michael - nobody else sees what you see, and good luck trying to teach people what they can't see when understanding means they'll get stuck doing what you tell them: even if it's a great idea.
No wonder Michael so often disappeared saying "screw it", but it sounds like he's gotten much better at dealing with this.
