From what I've seen it seems the Academy focuses on these certain criteria when choosing candidates:
1. Athletics
2. Community Service
3. Academic Achievement
4. ACT/SAT scores (yes separate from academic achievement)
5. Military Background
6. Race (not kidding. the academies are trying to diversify now, VMI is notorious for rejecting MANY females. They gotta fix that.)
The first 4 criteria are the ones that the student cant control. The last 2 are by the luck of the draw.

just because the guy had a 32 dose not mean that he was the whole 9 yards which all of the schools,usma,usna,usafa etc are looking for you need alot more then good act scores to get in

I don't mean to bash on females or anything, but they do lower the standards a bit for them to keep ratios up. Its nothing against women, but most women aren't thinking about joining the military...

This year i met a girl with a 22 ACT and got in to the Naval Academy and a guy with a 32 who got rejected
