In an increasingly social world, author Susan Cain argues that we undervalue the power of the introvert at our peril. How can organisations ensure that the best ideas dominate, rather than those of the most vocal and assertive people?

Susan Cain is in conversation with Jon Ronson, journalist, humourist and documentary maker.

I completely agree with you. And as for being physically worn out, though I love being an introvert, this is one of the hardest parts of introversion and something that extroverts will never really understand. I wish that the energy drain that we suffer with was emphasised more whenever introversion is mentioned, as talking is such a basic, normal, expected part of life but just exhausts us for most of the time. It is such a strange thing to be exhausted by a vital part of life.

I kind of feel bad that I did not discover I was an introvert until age 27...all of my life I have been called weird/strange/different by my family and other people because I was the "quiet" one and now that I know I'm an introvert, I feel a sense of relief because I am coming to accept who I am. It is also good to know that there are others out there that can relate

Yeah. It's by combining a creative genius and a communicative genius that things get done. But every time I see a job offer with the word "dynamic" I know I'm totally fucked. I KNOW I'd be good at that job. I just don't get past the door since "shut the fuck up and let me show you I can (easily) get your shit done" doesn't really work elsewhere than in low-end "dumb" jobs or over the internet. And both come with outrageously shitty pay. Oh well. I'll just dive back into my thoughts then. :')

You throw an introvert in a room of people that are extroverted... it's better the introvert keeps quiet because the extrovert has none of their own ideas and will just take any idea that comes to the surface as their own!

I've not read the book she's referring to,but does she make mention of the Myers-Briggs Personality Type indicator test in it?

I don't know much about Angela Merkel. But you can't judge introverts by one person.

Who is vilifying extroverts or calling them speech terrorists? I don't know if you missed the last two sentences of my comment, but I like extroverts. I just happen to be an introvert. This is a video about introverts, talking about attributes that may not be clear to people. You misunderstand this video, and you probably shouldn't be here if you think introverts are so terrible.

Angela Merkel fits your description of an introvert. Do I even need to say more?

This recent glorification of introverts and vilification of extraverts is a purely ideological operation. As though talking about the real challenge's we face today is a bad thing. What's next? Calling extraverts "speech terrorists"? Get over yourself.
