Riding Newman, a 5 year old Grants zebra gelding. In this training session, we demonstrate standing still while being mounted, walking off smoothly and confidently under saddle, confidence with objects (in this case, a shirt) being waved around him and standing on his back.

  • Let it free, a zebra is not a pet

  • @solhasse Where should I let him free? Downtown Houston, TX? His line has been in the US since before the 1960's and has been bred here for quite a few generations.

  • this place looks familiar by any chance are you in mid california more specificly monterey area

  • @Jerryguy1818 No, I am in Texas, near Houston

  • I am a horse trainer and "sockerlovingchick" is doing exactly what she should be doing. Moving at a pace to teach but not push so far there is an outburst.

Back on topic. BRAVO Chick, I love it.

@4hoovesnstripes , I hope you don't own or even touch any hooved animals.

There is enough "broke" ones already.

  • @Kingjulianisawesome The idea is to get on and off many times, getting him used to people being sloppy with him. I am training him for less experienced people, therefore, I must train him as they might ride him. I act as though I am struggling to get on and off, I bump him, I fumble around...all so he will be used to it and not spook if and when it ever happens. If I train perfectly, never fumbling at all, the first time something doesn't go right, you have a spook.

  • Wow that came out bad. Correction I'd like to see you try that with a giraffe.

  • Ice like to see you try that with giraffe.

  • @Kingjulianisawesome It's obvious that the saddle wasn't secured and she was slipping for most of the time, the other points in time I don't think she had any problems hoisting herself up. Lots of people need mounting blocks so I don't think there is any problem with struggle if she even has any.

  • oh my god. dont feel bad for the zebra they are like pretty much the same things as horses a very strong back and they can be domesticated look this one is. It CAN be a pet and IS to some people.

  • I did not think zebras could be domesticated. They seem like very bad-tempered animals,

  • poor thing :(

  • @IStartWithGlowPlugs Could you send me or give me a link showing a diagram of a Zebras anatomy and in what way it is so different from a horses that riding it will hurt it? (don't just say so demonstrate it with anatomical diagrams) In what way is their anatomy different? I'm just curious, I keep seeing this comment but no one gives specifics.

  • @Kingjulianisawesome u obiosly do not know anything about horses
