Workers at the Smithfield meat processing plant in Tar Heel, NC voted to unionize after a long, bitter fight in which the company was cited for numberous labor law violations. The workers will be represented by the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW). The vote took place Dec. 10-11.

  • I worked at Smithfield for 10 years and quit. That Union is worthless. I filed a complaint with the Union when I was being harassed by my supervisor and they offered no assistance yet I were paying my Union dues of $7.00 per week. That Union is only there to get their fees from the workers paychecks without representing the workers. That Union has caused alot of hardships among the workers at that Company. People who worked at that Company 10 yrs or more are being fired.

  • Good for them... hopfully the union will assist all the illegal immigrants Smithfield hired to becoming documented citizens...and allow them to continue working as they have for the past 10-15 years

  • I am glad to see this, I work in a Smithfield subsidary and were union. UFCW local 440.

  • Damn a union....useless

  • At LAST!!!!!!
