During the Clinton years, America succeeded best only once he passed Welfare Reform and Investment Tax Cuts (both Republican ideas). The "super surplus" was only from not counting socialist insecurity and mediscare deficits. During the Bush years, America succeeded best when the 2003 tax cuts passed. The economy grew very well from the passage of the 2003 tax cuts until the Democrats took over Congress, advocated tax hikes, persecuted the oil and gas companies, and whined about "global warming".

Well, we will eventually see what the outcome of this situation will be. Party BULL aside I want America to succeed. The past 8 years show how well tax cuts work, America went from a super surplus to an awful deficit. And who was in charge the past 8 years?

Senator Ensign took the responsible position: such massive spending should not be directed by a distant federal government, especially when only one party is allowed any input into the spending. The Demoncrats have used the recession for their political benefit. The Demoncrats clearly have no concept of what it takes to allow America to succeed.

What a load of bull. Prosperity comes from productive private citizens, not from government. The best way to incentivize people to be productive is to let them keep more of their own money (not burden them with high taxes). Keynesian stimulus never has brought any economy out of recession. The private sector gets the economy out of recession. The government should just get out of people's way. Cut taxes and cut government spending so that individuals can best decide how to spend their own money.

John Ensign is just playing party politics and not tending to the business of America! To Ensign and most republicans, the party comes first, then their re-election, then the business America.

Speaking of Chicago, where are you in Chicago? I am actually in Glencoe. New Trier Twp. was won handidly by Mitt Romney in the Republican primary. New Trier voted for a DEM in the general for the first time since FDR this year too. Winnetka and Kenilworth independently still leaned Republican. Chicago is home to a wide variety of political views, but I would say that Chicago unfairly overpowers the rest of the state.

It's a shame Ron Paul can't toughen up on Foreign Policy. He's probably the most inline with Free Market Principals. Given the current economic struggle, the social issues should take the back seat! Here in the midwest (around Chicago) I saw just as many Ron Paul stickers and signs as Obama/Biden's. Just a thought, the man has raised quite a mob!
As proven in the past, tax cuts DO NOT work to stimulate the economy. Stimulus got us out of the depression with the exception of 1937. In 1937 Dems let the republicans have their way and let tax cuts rule and the result was a BIG back slide. In 1938 the '37 policies were rolled back and the stimulus took over again and the country prospered. My QUESTION is WHY do republicans NOT want America to prosper???

I'm a Libertarian, with Free Market (low taxation) principals. Magic Brand your question is legitimate! The problem with any Government Spending is the later effect of inflation. Roosevelt's spending during his time in office led to inflation, which at one point hit six percent in a single month under Harry S Truman. I want America to prosper, but the right way! The quickest resolution isn't always the best!
