U.S. Reed sank a 49-foot shot at the buzzer to give Arkansas a 74-73 NCAA Tournament victory over defending national champion Louisville on March 14, 1981.
I know one thing!!!! Louisville would have whipped UK's ASS!!!!!! This was back in the day when UK would not play U of L. The only reason UK has 7 ncaa championships is because they won most of them during the civil war!!!!!
@swr112261 That game should never have been as close as it was. Arkansas was ahead the entire second half until Louisville went up 73--72. The refs got caught up with the comeback, quit calling fouls on Louisville, and started calling all sorts of tickle fouls on Arkansas.
Games like this were the reason they expanded the field from 48 to 64 teams. The teams with the first round bye (in this case Louisville) were too cold on the weekend and kept getting upset. Especially DePaul.
@DaCaptain924 You're in luck. As a part of the new TV deal between CBS Sports & Turner Sports, Marv Albert will be at the mike calling the NCAA tournament action.
Louisville were defending Natl. Champs. They'd won 15 in a row and it took a prayer from mid-court for Ak to win. We probably would have gone to the Final Four, as we did the next two years.
@swr112261 Why is it a crock? Arkansas had the lead for 39 min and 55 seconds of the game. Hogs left themselves a chance to win with the last shot and they did it. Hogs were better than Louisville that year and deserved to win that game.
Possibly the worst timed cut to Bryant Gumbel possible.

Arkansas got hosed for the entire second half of that game with the refs. But they pulled out the win anyway- justice!

@Tampaslice The entire country? I don't think Louisville would have gotten past LSU either; they sure wouldn't have beat Indiana.

@HoginMemphis Agree 180% about the game. Refs let Louisville get away with murder in the second half to let them get back in and then go ahead.

Love seeing those Louisville cheerleaders crying. That means the Hogs won!
