  • Of course you can start playing anything...but as my Senior Master used to tell me...play slowly at first until you get it. Saluti

  • At the time Giuseppe Anedda was a Police Officer ( I think in Rome) but used to practice Mandoline. He then started researching Music for Mandolin...at museums, Public Library, etc...until he discovered a lot of good Music, such as the Vivaldi's Concertos. He called my senior Master to join him and went on tour all over Europe with the Ochestra da Camera " Virtuosi di Roma " directed by Maestro Fasano. They performed in London, brussels, Paris, etc. I saw all these documents.

  • Welcome. When I started learning Mandolin I used to hold the plectrum hardly and

did not rest my hand at all(e.g. such as making a fist). That was wrong as I have been told. So you took some time to correct my right hand and make it relaxed on the sounding board. Yes I'm Italian. My Senior Master Maestro Flavio Cornacchia played the 2nd Mandolin in the Vivaldi Concerto in G major together with Senior Master of Mandolin Giuseppe Anedda who discovered the Vivaldi's concertos in the 50s...I think.

  • I don't know what you intend for " Rest your hand..." but the fingers of my right hand are usually relaxed when I play the Mandolin by using the plectrum. I started learning Mandolin when I was 7. Taught by my father and a Senior Master who performed ( I think) for the first time the Vivaldi Concertos...with another Mandolin Player called Giuseppe Anedda. I knew him as well.

  • Thanks for appreciation though it's a bit rough compared to Bach's wonder :o)

When I talked about resting the hand I meant resting the ghand on the harmony table.

Looks like I found the right person to discuss mandolin, the facts about your father and his friend are much exciting! Are you italian?

If you started at 7 no wonder you played so great at 19!

Do you know how these concertos have been discovered?

Would you think Vivaldi's concertos are a good way to start the mandolin?

  • when you slow down as well. In Classical Music, the situation is more complicated (in terms of written part) as the tremolo may start from the higher note...such as Sol Fa Sol Fa Sol Fa...instead of Fa Sol Fa Sol Fa Sol...I think in the period of Vivaldi and Bach.

  • @dearodear Welcome. Wow, very nice. I enjoyed your playing very much. Listen, especially in popular Music

there is no any form of restriction when doing the tremolo. The way you do the tremolo...it is up to the player. For my opinion, a tremolo sounds as a tremolo when all the notes that are comprise in it are uniformly played...

  • HI, thanks a lot for your answer

Yes Django style Indeed, Actually you hear what I play on my video page.

Thanks for th hint about Branzoli method, unfortunately I don't read music (only chord charts and tabs) :-(

I heard that when doing the tremolo on mandolin you have to finish with an uprstroke, is that right?

Do you rest your hand or leave it free like when playing Django style, oud etc?..

When did you start to play?

Congratulations again for your excellent verison of the Chaconne...

  • @dearodear Thanks :) I'm 44. So, should you play the style of Django Reinhardt? Well, the Mandolin is a small instrument and difficult to get it heard, especially within the complex structure a Symphony Orchestra...believe me. There are some good methods for Mandolin, e.g. Branzoli. But do not get discouraged at first stages and ask me questions on how to practice the Mandolin. I will try to give you best answers and directions. Regards

  • Well congratulations, yout interpretation is really excellent. HOw old are you right now?

I play Gipsy jazz guitar and I found a mandolin ia garage sale so I try to learn it but I'll never get your level! If I work hard maybe one day I'll be able to play Vivaldi' concertos...
