Rodolfo Llinas tells the story of how he has developed bundles of nanowires thinner than spider webs that can be inserted into the blood vessels of human brains.

While these wires have so far only been tested in animals, they prove that direct communication with the deep recesses of the brain may not be so far off. To understand just how big of a breakthrough this is—US agents from the National Security Agency quickly showed up at the MIT laboratory when the wires were being developed.

What does this mean for the future? It might be possible to stimulate the senses directly - creating visual perceptions, auditory perceptions, movements, and feelings. Deep brain stimulation could create the ultimate virtual reality. Not to mention, direct communication between man and machine or human brain to human brain could become a real possibility.

Llinas poses compelling questions about the potentials and ethics of his technology.

  • Fuck you, freaky nerds, leave my brain alone!

  • @SolRosenberg84 LOL concept is sound and moral........ your an ape???? And you think nano wires will make you a god? if you need nano wires to make you a god your a counterfeit...... with remarks such as yours one could almost believe in the theory of evolution but APES appear to be much more evolved then you...... LOL

  • @babalina

I don't doubt that business interests will fuck this up, they've fucked up every other beneficial technology they've gotten their talons on.

However, the concept behind it is correct and moral. Changing human biology is the only way to survive in the long run in the universe we exist in. Staying put, staying the same = suicide. You might as well feed anthrax to your kids if you never want us to change.

Don't blame the tool, blame the asshole misusing it.

  • @SolRosenberg84 Become a God? The elite plans to "improve" you isn't you becoming a "God". It will be "creating a limited range of emotions, to make you more predicitable", to make you "work longer hours without complaining", in effect to make you a more obedient little slave.

  • could you please go into video manager and turn the video remix on for this video, so folks could easily copy it, instead of downloading it? thanks

  • Faxebook is the prototype

  • @Abletoroll No, we do use 100% of our brains, it's a fact. Just some people think there are unused parts, well they must have been used in the past, they aren't there for no reason (appendix notwithstanding, not that it's a part of the brain)

  • @anutarasamyat

Why remain an ape, when you can become a god?

There is no intrinsic value in our "humanity" nor in the current state of any part of our being. In fact, our current state of being is quite suicidal - espeically sociologically. All our civilizations kill themselves, due to our inability to truly connect with each other.

Perhaps technology will eventually offer us ways to become more receptive of each other's pain, more understaning, more loving. Perhaps it will let us survive.

  • @SpinalTracker Your assuming their going to make them out of reactive materials.

  • @thesnare100 You're assuming a lot. Such as us knowing our evolutionary history.
