We knew this was likely coming, with the expansion and renovation projects at Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, Massachusetts.
In the 1976 Simmonds Building expansion, the elevators are about to get modernized by ThyssenKrupp, as evident in the elevator thought to be dead, being their first victim.
We get one last ride (or two, or more....) on one of these Payne Traction Elevators, before they fall to the same fate.
Gone will be the original buttons, replaced with "new" and "exciting" GAL Jet-Plus (as seen on the call stations). Of course, we can't have a mod, without the infamous "ACME" floor counter, can we?
This may be the last video of these as they are.

  • I LOVE those buttons! (Payne, not GAL)

  • @suzzex

So do I. They will go away, unfortunately.

  • @georgef551 older buttons are very nice on this elevator. that much noise is a real problem.

  • @Balarick

The noise on a Payne is called "ThyssenKrupp Maintenance".

  • @georgef551 Strange how maintenance can be that noisy. later they should fix it.

  • @Balarick

Paynes are usually a bit noisy, but not that bad, if done right. The ones done right are the ones at that hospital in Burlington I was at, which I can't remember the name of. Otis maintained those.

The car runs on it's own, by the rider using it, of course. It will not take commands from the hall stations, plus some features behave differently. They vary from brand to brand, but the call station ignoring is comon.

No idea. Those appear to be untouched. I'm sure they'll get ruined at some point.

Yes. They used GAL in the Senior/Rehab Building.

    (There's a video on those.)

  • TK using GAL? This will make it unique on its own in its way, plus I'll be interested to see if GAL will bring their new, digital chime.
