Istanbul. Jerusalim. Cordoba. Muslims build Mosques on Conquered Lands.

Islam is not just a religion. It is a totalitarian political ideology that wants to bring Sharia Law to the US. The saudi's fund our Universities, and teach students to Hate Jews, Muslims Discovered America, etc. Building the Islamic community Center, is there for only two reasons: illustrate the superiority of islam, and to deny that the Attack was an "islamic Attack" on the United States.

I think perhaps an intercultural center, with the input of all parties including the Islamic community, would be a perfect compromise. After all, America is where cultures come together, learn from each other, and create a deep, powerful mosaic of the human experience. I would want to see all faiths and religions represented there standing in perfect juxtaposition to absolute monotheism the fundamentalists represented. I applaud your desire for atonement and closing the rift. I suggest that, based on the backlash you're seeing, atonement will not be possible if the mosque is built as the plans stand today. If you want to reach another party to build a dialogue, you have to listen to the way that side is responding... and sadly, people don't appreciate the manner in which your group is trying. Don't give up - instead consider a different approach - a middle ground. An interfaith - intercultural center?
