Discovery Style Cube Transition

I've seen a few people out there now experimenting with this cool cube transition effect that the Discovery Channel has started using. I got inspired by Nick Campbell's tutorial using Cinema4D and After Effects, and I just wanted to see if I could do it myself in Blender.
