I was in my neighborhood, a few weeks back and this weird ass parade just started, it's like something out of the Godfather, They carry around this statue of the Virgin Mary, and there's money taped to it, what's the deal with that?

  • Thanks for the comments, knowing is half the battle. I'm Irish Catholic so I just assumed I was drunk when I filmed it.

  • It's not a "parade". It's a procession...a tradition that dates back a thousand years. You really should try expanding your narrow, American pop-culture horizons. And it's not something "out of the Godfather" or any other fictitious garbage. Not everything in Italian culture has a corollary to the Hollywood trash you've apparently come to rely upon to explain the world to you.

  • FORZA ITALIA XSEMPRE!!

  • fuck you and your condescending guinea culture....thou shalt not make graven images

  • Money is a show of giving to the church or...whatever, I am not really sure.

  • This is Our Lady Of Mount Carmen In Newton MA

  • People get the sticks out of your asses.

  • lol golf cart at the end ^^

  • This is wat an Italian festival looks like!! Not like an American one tht is boring!! Get the hint!!

  • Why weird? Because you don't understand it? The faith of the Italian people is an outward expression. To the participants it's an act of faith in public carried out annually in such processions throughout the county. Patron saint processions date back centuries in Europe (not only Italy) and not to the Godfather movie from 1972.

  • This is the St. Mary of Carmen Society's annual Festival in Newton, MA. I am actually apart of it and have been since I was a child. This year will be the 74th annual celebration. It takes place in July. There's a small amusement park throughout the week, ending with two processions on Sunday; one during the day that marches the statue of St. Mary through the streets of Newton, then one at night, returning the statue to the church. It's a great tradition.
