Weird Italian Festival

It's not a "parade". It's a procession...a tradition that dates back a thousand years. You really should try expanding your narrow, American pop-culture horizons. And it's not something "out of the Godfather" or any other fictitious garbage. Not everything in Italian culture has a corollary to the Hollywood trash you've apparently come to rely upon to explain the world to you.

Why weird? Because you don't understand it? The faith of the Italian people is an outward expression. To the participants it's an act of faith in public carried out annually in such processions throughout the county. Patron saint processions date back centuries in Europe (not only Italy) and not to the Godfather movie from 1972.

This is the St. Mary of Carmen Society's annual Festival in Newton, MA. I am actually apart of it and have been since I was a child. This year will be the 74th annual celebration. It takes place in July. There's a small amusement park throughout the week, ending with two processions on Sunday; one during the day that marches the statue of St. Mary through the streets of Newton, then one at night, returning the statue to the church. It's a great tradition.
Thanks for the comments, knowing is half the battle. I'm Irish Catholic so I just assumed I was drunk when I filmed it.
