In April and May 2010, the Carleton University Earth Sciences fourth-year field camp went to Northern Ireland to see many of the classic geological localities in Europe. Led by Tim Patterson, Brian Cousens and Helen Roe (Queens University, Belfast), and bolstered by an all-star cast of Irish geologists, the trip was almost cancelled at the last minute due to the eruption of Eyjafjallajokul volcano in Iceland. But the group of 20 students and the professors caught the first flight out of Ottawa to Heathrow after the five-day shutdown of many airports in Europe. Lucky for us - it was a truly awesome trip. See for yourself!

  • Northern Ireland is a disputed territory. It was stolen from Ireland in 1922.
