Thank you so much for posting this! My wife is super paranoid that our aquarium will break because she sees a tiny space in the middle where it's not supported. However, since we only have the recommended amount of water and fish in there, rather than our entire bodies, I can assure her it will not break : )

Didn't see that coming. I was sure the tank would have broken around the 1:00 mark.
Thanks for the video!

In a regular (non test) situation you could use even more weight than this. If you notice all the weight was directed at one point. In a regularly decorated aquarium the weight would be dispersed and not as stressful on the glas.. Good experiment. Also remember that a ten gallon is very short in length which adds to its strength. Luckily longer aquariums usually have thicker glass anyway. :)

@mm3861 I just came across this. If the glass is tempered it won't break into sharp edged shards, but smaller cubish fragments. Not that it means there's no risk of major injury.

I watched that whole video hoping to see it shatter and it didn't. Kind of bummed but still glad aquariums are so strong!

thanks for the test, looking to see how much I can add to my tank. I guess, all I want

Wait, where did you acquire a 10 gallon with a tempered bottom? I thought only certain sizes had tempered bottoms

@radean84 hahahahaha.

i wonder if having the full of water would make a difference? an extra 80 lbs or would the water cancel out some weight of the rocks? i dunno!

That's very impressive.
2:05 here's an EXCELLENT way to slice the popliteal artery..... Don't try this at home kids ;)

Yes, a great way to slice an artery indeed! I had a trained medical team on site when filming this (my wife is a nurse). Anyhow, this wasn't smart, kids don't use your bodies as a weight.
