A 'hero' is subjective in the end. It implies the idea of objective right or wrong. Anyone can percieve a situation or result as good or bad. Hitler is one of the biggest villain this planet has ever had, but to those that adopt far right outlooks on the master race he'll be 'their hero.' In the case of Trotsky, he might be a hero to those choosing to identify themselves as the impoverished working masses, but to others he'll be seen as an antagonist to their own values of economic independance.

@johnnystulic42 Completely agree. Trotsky's main criticism of Stalinism was pretty much that it was Stalin and not himself in power! Trotsky and Lenin wanted a dictatorship of 18 people centrally running Russia. Stalin wanted a dictatorship of one. Neither are particularly virtuous nor emancipatory

@tomrollock Sure you can. Lenin made him possible. He opened the road for his rise to power by not understanding what a shit system he just installed at the cost of countless lives of his countrymen (including those that fought on his side during the civil war, and whom he later deemed undesirable, such as anarchists). He coldly decided to split off and raise a backstab "revolution" while his country was locked in a world war, like commies in my native Yugoslavia in WW2. Fuck him.
