This is our first true trip, on the weekend of June 27-28th 2009, using the new boat "Hell or High Water", taken out over 15km on an over-night trip, we rounded the tip of Long Island in Rothesay, New Brunswick, hiked, swam, camped out, then continued around till we returned to shore again. It's still a trial run till we have the mast fitted.
RKAS (Royal Kennebecasis Adventure Society) began construction on this ship, christened "Hell or High Water" in February of 2009 and on June 20th 2009 she was launched with all 5 members who helped in her construction and assembly. It was build using the design from Gary Dierkings Book "Building Outrigger Sailing Canoes". Using local talents (ourselves) local materials we scrounged up or found and the video itself set to some fine local free music...It will later be equipped with mast and sail.
@glockfan40 The bow and stern are ply with a pine strip deck covering but the seats are just a clear stained pine and the interior flooring is left as ply but painted with a white marine water-proof paint, same with the under-side of the hull up to the water-line. We also completely covered the bottom of the whole hull with fibre glass to re-enforce it and good thing because the paint got stripped off fast after the first summer on the water from all the beach landings, haha.
