These amazing craftsmen, following in the traditions of their ancestors, are still producing the most beautiful craft. This one, ordered by a fisherman of means, is 38 feet long, & 91/2 in beam. She'll be lateen rigged, in the milennia-old style of the Arabian dhow. As she is an open vessel, she is properly called a "Jahazi".

  • khakate123 Better days, when we were young :-)

  • Delighted my publisher, on member's request, donated copy (autographed) of 'Speak Swahili, Dammit!' to fundraising raffle, Kenya Regiment Association meeting, Winchester, 6th July. Proceeds to old-age homes for former Askaris in East Africa. Publisher also agreed to sell copies at big discount, £3.00 per copy each to buyers at meeting, and same charity. I hope this presages bigger donations to come.
