Agreed, the textures could be added to a normal cube. Maybe you could even print them using the MakerBot and glue them onto the Rubik's cube. But, by doing it yourself, it has that homemade feel and the satisfaction of knowing you made something that worked.

Yeah you could do that as well! And if the cube is nice it would be interesting trying to actually speedcube with it, blindfolded or even looking, because having the patterns reduces the need for turning the cube around to see the other side...
The idea here was to make a fully printable cube from the scratch though...

You could just glue textures on to a normal cube...

And this is only the beginning!

looks like it needs a sanding if it was made with resin

It's ABS plastic... I sanded the insides so the pieces would slide better against each other, but I left the outside the way it came out of the printer ;)

I really liked the way, in your video, you included the "coding" footage where you showed the code generating the 3D model. I'm thinking about buying a MakerBot. My university has one, so I'm trying to get in and play with it before I invest a grand in the project of bringing ideas to the physical world.

@heyandy889 Thanks! I thought I should include the coding part because that's what took the longest, and also that's when the cube was born hehe... OpenSCAD rules :)
Hope you get to play with the Makerbot, I recommend it!
