Its often thought that the Mahavishnu Orchestra never performed pieces off the album Visions Of the Emerald Beyond in concert , as that line-up of the group disbanded soon after recording it .
However in fact they did perform some of it at some concerts . A case in point is the 1975 Stockholm concert in which they did several numbers from that album . Same line-up as on the album ,with Russell Tubbs on sax.
On this video I have included audio excerpts from that concert which can be heard on concert website Jazzfusion(dot)tv.
I have included part of spoken introduction and edited excerpts of the songs Eternities Breath , Can't Stand Your Funk , Be Happy, and Cosmic Strut which were performed at that concert .
The concert recording sound quality is only marginal and for this video I just put speakers next to a camera , so its rough to listen to . But its still interesting to lisen to such a rare concert .
You can hear the whole thing by going to Jazzfusion(dot)tv and scroll down the list of audio concerts to find MAHAVISHNU- STOCKHOLM-1975-02-07.

  • NOTE - You can also hear another 1975 concert at that Jazzfusion(dot)tv website . Its listed as -' Mahavishnu Orchestra 1975-05-03 Music Hall, Boston MA'. Much better sound quality . However it doesn't have Jean Luc Ponty , Steve Kindler plays lead violin and Stu Goldberg has replaced Gayle Moran . Also has version of 'Eternities breath' as well as 'You know you know 'and ' Lilas dance.'

  • @69MC97gc I think there was more than one show , on the recording this is taken from I can hear Gayle Moran singing . The show she was ill must have been another date.

  • i had the' Between Nothingness..." album i thought that the intro theme of the first cut was great..and the duet between Mclaugh and Cobm on the second side was awesome..but overall the album was not what i thought that it could be..maybe if they could release the whole thing, if there is such a thing then i may see it in a diffrent light...but The' emerald beyond' is my favorite overall MO album.."birds of fire' is my favorite of the MO1 band..i 've heard some great bootlegs by MO1 also.

  • Stockhom.!975.I do not remember the date because I was so blown away..no vocals, amd Gayle Moran was not on keyboards.John said she was ill.Funny how tou remember.

  • @cidedwards31a MMMMMMMMM.........have you listened to the live album Between Nothingness and Eternity before

MO 1 split. Probably the best thing the JM ever did!!!!!

  • this is my favorite lineup of the MO.the first was awesome but these guys i like the bass(armstrong who could solo and get funky when he had to), and violin(ponty was more expressive on his axe , and it makes up for Morans' lack of solos).Cobham is Cobham, but i like Walden as well and Mclaugh is Mclaugh, i guess the guys seem to bind in a more spiritual way than the first group...it's established the Mcglaugh is the head and the other cats are not behind him resenting him, they play music
