Cascades Theatrical Company in Bend, Oregon, presents "She Stoops to Conquer" by Oliver Goldsmith.

Comedy abounds in this classic tale of mistaken identities and social satire! Charles Marlow is insufferably nervous around high-born ladies, but quite the hot-blooded philanderer among the lower-class population of maids and serving girls. When he mistakes the genteel Kate Hardcastle for nothing more than a bar-maid, his lusty pursuits land him in hot water with both her father and his.

Meanwhile, George Hastings and Constance Neville would love nothing more than to elope to Paris, but Mrs. Hardcastle puts Constance on a short leash by withholding her inheritance of jewels from her until she agrees to marry Tony Lumpkin, thus keeping the fortune within the family.

Opening Night is April 9th, with shows on all Wednesdays through Sundays until April 25th. Call 389-0803 for more information and to order tickets.

Appropriate for teens through adults.

Don't miss this opportunity to see one of the United Kingdom's greatest theatrical achievements of all time, even beating out Sheridan, Wilde, and Shakespeare on some critics' lists.

  • We are truly blessed to have Lilli Ann Linford-Foreman as the costumer and primary seamstress. I haven't been witness to the whole process, but I gather from the constant activity of two seamstresses in the theater's lobby that a good many of the costumes are brand new, not just old ones rented or altered.
