In this video I will show you a clip that I cut out from my first video, "Into the Jungle!" In this I show you the must haves if you are to go on a quick day hike in the wilds of Southwest Florida. A few things that I forgot to show should be mentioned. 1: All-in-one compass, whistle, thermometer, and magnifying glass. The magnifying glass can even be used to start a fire! 2: A good sharp pocket knife or hunting knife, so you can cut materials to build shelter if needed, skin any animals you may catch if lost, and to defend yourself from animals while hiking.

  • a stick, a hat, wheat thins, a bell, napkins, and a bag.....really? i would not want to get lost with you.

  • @unoshotounokillo Where I was is not even 3 square miles of forest. It's surrounded on all 4 sides by housing developments and highways, so chances of you getting lost are around 0%. Sorry for letting you down ;-)

  • It's always interesting to me to see how others prepare for time in the woods/jungle. I bring essentially the same things though I have never thought to bring mace. This is an excellent idea and I may try to find some product like this to carry with me. While you were shooting near the lake I was wondering if that big croc was nearby. I wonder if the mace would help against an animal like that? Thanks for sharing. Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • @softypapa Thank you for your comment, Kurt. It makes me feel good that by posting this video I could be helping fellow adventurers! The stream of mace actually travels a distance of 8-12 feet and could easily be used against a vicious animal. As for the croc, I would assume it would repel him, as I believe mace works on anything that has eyes and a nose.. let's hope I never have to find out!

    Happy walking. -Cole

  • I consider what you are doing as "dayhiking" rather than backpacking.

  • Where's your knife man?
