He performs the song during the Cincinnati Pop's Halloween Special of 1996. Conducted by Erich Kunzel.

I hope to soon gain a copy of the Motown Special, so we can really see what he was like in the role. This was done some years after he donned the mask for the last time.

I OWN NOTHING. I am merely promoting this amazing but sadly underrated performer in one of my favorite roles

  • Benson can SING

  • Crawford is darn good too, but Robert Guillaume is special to me. Thanks MaskedLion i consider this upload a gift for the holidays.

  • @screechingsoul I got to see him perform and he was great. I never knew he could sing. I saw the LA show and he brought out the darker side of the Phantom. He made the part his own. I also saw Michael Crawford in LA and he again brought out a different aspect to the character. His interpretation was of a more romantic brooding figure. Darn, the 80's were a good time for me. I actually had money for shows.

  • A phenomenal karaoke performance!! But that ain't cutting the mustard on a national stage.

  • I have been looking for a performance of his as the Phantom for a long time

  • well people didn't really feel too happy because of a since Forgotten reason. Anthony Perkins ( Famous for the character of NORMAN BATES in the psycho movies, actually auditioned for the role. but he lost it to Guillaume. so this was a bit confusing to theatre goers. Anthony Died the next year If I understand correctly..

  • his voice is very soothing. i don't like how people didn't like him as the Phantom cuz he's black. Why not have a black Phantom? WHY NOT? he's very good, they let Gerald Buttler play the Phantom when he can't even sing that well. THAT was bad.

  • i never noticed: thanks for making that a moot point for me. i was just amazed at his voice.

  • to the one that said that he should wear a black mask, in LA he actually had both a white mask and a gold mask which was very elegant with his skin tone.

  • @aceofclubs002 In my opinion if I were there when he was performing I would love to see it.
