@nebraskacw thank you, I always intended the braid to be soldered but I had often troubles, as well, with short circuits due to little "hairs" of braid... maybe it's me: not good at modelling the braid, but in K3LR's method I am sure that all the braid being cut, it comes solderes on the PL259. I tried the methond and I feel good with it. On the roof , I use to isolate the PL259 with teflon tape and electrician's tape.

I would make it more traditional. Amphenol for example made that connector the way they did for a reason. I would take the time to enlarge in solder holes using a reamer. You can't rush quality!! I do agree 100% about the soldering of the braid. Perhaps a person can get away with not soldering on a short term, inside. but in the long run, especially if the antenna is outside, a buildup of silver oxide forms resulting in heating and high SWR because of essentially no contact to the braid.

This is probably the most idiotic method of installing a PL-259 that I have ever seen!!!
