Our cat always brings em in alive.
Has fun chasing it for 10 mins, then loses interest and lies down on our couch for a nap.

@Dristarg They do it to encourage you to hunt. It's like they're teaching their young kittens how to get food. Cats don't consider you their owners, they think it's the other way around lol.

There are a few theories as to why cats do this:
Honouring you by killing all possible threats (as if to say "He won't bother you again")
Encouraging you to hunt (as if to say "There, that's how it's done - now you try")
Showing off their skills (as if to say "Still think I'm so cute?")
Dropping hints (as if to say "You haven't fed me since yesterday")

I remember when my old cat had brought a feild mouse up to the ledge on the second floor window of my room. He was still kicking so I didn't let her in but she finished him of on the roof.

Its a pocket gopher.Their fun target practice as well as cheap cat food.
