The gold 1oz Year of the Dragon (2000) coin was the first coin in the Australian Lunar series to be sold out with a cap of 30000. The coin is still popular for it's rarity and design. I think I paid a premium for the coin, but it's still an excellent coin and a great addition to the collection!

You would have paid a premium, but buying a 2000 isn't just about making the numbers work. It is a nice coin to hold on to :)

Now I understand the brilliance of owning this 1oz. Dragon coin. The price was high and it thrilled me to bid for it on eBay.

That's one awesome coin... worth waaay over it's gold content!. I got a guilded silver version and by the end of the week had a job promotion, so I reckon they're lucky too!A pretty good camera also, went all the way into that close-up and stayed crystal clear!

@OzClawhammer thanks man....I saw on ebay...right now about $2300.00 (a $1000 over spot!) We'll see how it is in about 5 years! lol BTW, 2012 the next dragon coin is going to be released....(they're selling it for about $2400...and I think making only 1000 of them!!!)

Really liked video and choice of coin. Do you have an opinion on 1/4 oz. value. 1 oz. is a little steep for me.

@gdayoff I honestly can't say anything for the 1/4oz or the other denominations. But the one thing to note is that 2012 the next Lunar Dragon coin is coming out. When that comes out, that COULD propel the prices of these coins.
But you should buy it because you want it for the aesthetic, or collective purposes. Investing is risky (especially with numismatic coins!) If you really like the dragon coin then you should get it for your enjoyment. Asset appreciation would be a nice plus! :)

I have the dragon in 2oz silver. It's great, but what you have there is a serious coin. Phenomenal.
