My husband had an ampullary tumor 2 years ago. They were sure it was cancerous and he went through a whipple surgery. It was very scary but it all went very very well. It didn't end up being cancerous, and as of now, he's back to normal. Good luck. I remember what a shock it was.

Hi MegaDowen. I happen to be an abdominal surgeon. If the biopsy was positive for cancer, then Whipple procedure is the standard choice. What thez also need to do, however, is full staging procedure, which includes CT of the abdomen and thorax, to exclude metastases, which might influence the treatment.

@MegaDowen I am not expert in these things, but i think 1 test is enough, because tumors don't "transform" into other types. But for this, you should ask a real doctor.

hello ...please answer my question my husband is 35 and he is beeing dyagnose with ampullary cancer and he is really scare and me two they want to do the whipple but they only done one byopsy on him no more test and doctor does not want to do more test on him he had jundance and now he has a stand ....should i take him to do more test or is one test enough to determine that tipe of cancer thank you...

i wasn't aware that the gb always comes out during this procedure. also, that seems like a pretty large/"healthy" margin of pancreas being taken out. i think that varies with the severity of the adenocarcinoma. i've never heard of the appendix being removed--i know during many abdominal procedures, it's considered an "incidental appendectomy" to do so... like, just doing it because you're there, but that raises an issue with whether or not they give/gave consent. thanks for the animation.
