Here is a song, usually associated with Barbra Streisand, performed by the one and unique Aretha Franklin at her best.
Aretha Louise Franklin (born in 1942) is an American soul, R&B and gospel singer, songwriter and pianist born in Memphis, Tennessee, but raised in Detroit, Michigan. She has been called for many years "The Queen Of Soul", but many also call her "Lady Soul" as well as the more affectionate "Sister Re". She is renowned for her soul and R&B recordings but is also adept at jazz, rock, blues, pop, gospel, and even opera. She is generally regarded as one of the top vocalists ever, due to her ability to inject whatever she may be singing about with passion, soul and sheer conviction. Franklin is the second most honored female singer in Grammy history. Ms. Franklin has won nineteen competitive Grammys (including an unprecedented eleven for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance, eight of them consecutive), and the state of Michigan has declared her voice to be a wonder. On January 3, 1987, she became the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked her #9 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In 2005, she became the second woman to be inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. On May 13, 2006, she was presented with an honorary Doctor of Music degree by the Berkeley College of Music.
Enjoy Aretha's exceptional voice!

  • She is so awesome...listen to the sensitivity displayed on each note, the softness and then the loudness.

She has done it all, rock, jazz, Gospel, opera, and the blues. Aretha, is in a class all by herself.

    The Queen !

  • Mekko2000,

Respectfully honoring your opinion, to me Aretha's version of this song is for superior in every aspect. From vocal quality, control, technique and just pure emotional transference Aretha delivers!

  • love her version and the supremes and barbra too

  • Dionne Warwick also made a magnificent recording of this tune. All three of these renditions are remarkable. Thanks, ladies!

  • She does justice to this classic Streisand song, however that was when she was young and had the voice to do it, btw this song will always be Streisands.

  • boring? This song is so full of emotion. What I find amazing is the tremendous amount of control.

  • WOW! Aretha can sing anything. Your montage is great. This is amazing thanks for posting

  • can u beleive somebody had the nerve to say her version is boring and lifeless compared to steisands

  • Babs & Ree are the same age, one month apart, and came to columbia within a few months of each other. the columbia execs had them record several of the same songs, and encouraged each to incorporate elements of the others singing.
