NORMAL.
BMW Certified Technicians will all tell you it is 100% normal. The small amount of play is purposefully manufactured in to the design of the shifter to reduce vibrations from the transmission. You will not find a “solid” shifter from BMW ever, as it is quite uncomfortable, and provides arguably no advantages whatsoever.

Actually it's not normal, the stock shifter + link felt like it had less slop(more of a spongy feel) the uuc + dssr has a very loose sloppy feel. UUC said they would be coming out with a fix around a year ago and still nothing. Visit m3post.com and do a search on uuc ssk and you will see what I am talking about.
