I'm new to fiber processing and have reviewed several YouTube combing videos. I have found that I've learned a great deal from your combing videos. Also, I'm convinced that the design of your comb ensemble is exactly what I need. I am on your waiting list and just wanted to thank you.

Thank you for your 2 part video. I am a new spinner and have a basic question. How do you decide, when you are preparing fibre for spinning, whether to use carders to prepare it, or combs and hackles? When faced with a fleece I am unsure which to choose and why.

Combing will take out most of the shorts, veg, neps and noils.
The fibres are pulled parallel in a continued fashion and called 'top'.
It will make a beautiful smooth yarn when spun worsted and be hard wearing great for socks, gloves, vests, waistcoats etc..
I comb all my fibres to get out the undesirables then spin semi worsted or semi woollen depending on what I am going to be knitting or weaving.
I have combed fibres on our combs as short as two inches, result-a wonderful woollen clean yarn

how long is a piece of string is the same kind of question as RareSteeks'
basically if the fibre is less than 2.5inches long it is carded, if longer then combed.
Carding leaves all the shorts, vegetation, neps and noils in, opens up the fibres and prepares them 'chris/cross' for woollen spinning to make a soft, lofty, airy, and warm article like a sweater. it is not hard wearing but will last a long time. it will pill for a while but once all the short fibres are gone the pilling will cease.
