Three years ago I posted a video nailing Jiffy Lube for scamming customers. It now has half a million views, and is the 4th result on Google when searching for "jiffy lube". Jiffy Lube said they had cleaned up their act.. but they haven't. They, and other lube and tune chains, are still scamming their customers.

Thanks to NBC LA's Joel Grover (www.nbclosangeles.com) for uncovering these unfortunate truths.

  • @floydefisher There is nothing wrong with going to a mechanic as long as you trust them. I just find that a dealership has more at stake than a normal mechanic. Plus, they're factory trained and see a lot of your vehicle.

  • @floydefisher Oh, I forgot...the bands in the AT should be looked at and adjusted if necessary too.

  • @bobrossftw Not when you gotta disassemble the drive train to get the AT serviced correctly. Doing it correctly requires draining the fluid (via a drain plug)...it also requires dropping the pan and doing a clean and inspect (which depending on the car requires drive train disassembly)

A real shop knows how to do this right....ASK THEM.

  • @chechnya (continued)

On many front wheel drive cars....this may require DISASSEMBLY OF THE DRIVE TRAIN which can be QUITE EXPENSIVE but WORTH IT.

GOOD MECHANICS know how to do this right ASK THEM BEFORE DOING THE SERVICE.

  • @chechnya No, just make sure you know what the mechanic is doing.

The PROPER way to change automatic transmission fluid is to DRAIN IT via the drain plug...then REMOVE the transmission fluid pan and CLEAN IT with a rag (there is a magnet in the pan that MUST BE CLEANED of metal debris). There is also a metal mesh filter that must be INSPECTED and REPLACED if bad (trust me, you'll know).

  • i'm surprised the reporter got his hands dirtyy

  • Jiffy Lube scammed us in San Leandro, CA.

We got the engine cleaned and the oil changed for 130.00 on one car. On the other car, we bought our own oil and got only an oil change that was supposed to be 35.00. We paid cash, and our total for both cars was 236.00!! We were scammed out of 71.00 by an employee named Eduardo Domingo. He's very good at what he does and how he does it, so management stands behind him. He's been doing this for a long time. It seems to be an in-house conspiracy. Ple

  • AKA "Stiffy Lube"

  • If you watch these videos and STILL go to Jiffy Lube, you're a fucking idiot and deserve to be taken advantage of. Go to a reputable dealership to get any work done. It's terribly expensive but worth it.

  • Yes a engine flush can lock a engine if done incorrectly (no its not required maintance, its a repair) But the other question is how did the car's owner not notice the oil pressure jumping around for three days in a row befor his block locked up? Yes its the mechanics fault for selling a unrequired service and doing it incorrectly but its also the cars operators fault for ignoring his gauges and continuing to drive around like a moron.
