  • Eventually it's going into a 1/5 scale jet dragster, the chassis is nearly finished, just have to nut out the rear wheels etc...

  • do you have any plans for this afterburner i have a jetcat p80 and a jetcat p120 static and would like to build one cheerspete

  • what can your use this for? i mean ,has anyone put an engine with an afterburner in an rc plane? or is it only really only light and practical enough for cars and maybe boats?

  • how did you get the afterburner

  • Hey Street,

The afterburner system on this engine is a custom made one, I built it some time ago, originally it would work intermitently, but some "development" helped iron out a few bugs and it now runs reasonably well, although not perfect. I'm still having problems getting it to light off at higher rpm settings above ~90%. I suspect the flame holder design is where I need more work.

    Cheers,

    Smithy.

  • is the after burner part of the system or does it come with the kit?

  • Hey Motorguy1,

You can purchase this type of engine itself for ~$2000AUD which includes all the electrics etc.., but then you have to get the afterburner system up and running, this is where the time and money comes into it. Plan on using lots of each!!

    Cheers,

    Smithy.

  • how much are one of those worth? thanks

  • Hey Videomaster,

You can use just about anything that will burn, I have tried several different fuels, kerosene, Jet A-1, petrol, diesel etc.. I have found the petrol gives a better ignition but the Jet A1 gives a higher thrust output, only a small percentage between them though. The diesel gives off a lot of smoke which ads to the effect but it's also very smelly, dirty and oily. ;-)

    Cheers,

    Smithy.

  • What kind of fuel do you use for the afterburner? and thats one hell of a afterburner!!!;)
