Sri Lanka too has been caught up in the gaming revolution, with many youth being absorbed by the countless computer games present in the market today. Sri Lankan Video gaming has experienced a significant development during the past few years. With the introduction of an umbrella organisation (Gamer.LK) and the resulting boom of organised competitive gaming, the logical next step and priority has become the importing of international gaming standards to Sri Lanka.
In an effort to bring the local competitive gaming scene closer to our international counterparts, The Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo and Gamer.LK (www.gamer.lk) are pursuing the establishment of the 'Sri Lanka Cyber Games' (SLCG) tournament - an annual gaming tournament held under international standards, giving Sri Lankan gaming a legitimacy that the country had not earned in the past. The SLCG is heavily influenced by the World Cyber Games (WCG) tournaments held annually. This years event, SLCG 2008, will be a stepping stone in bringing the World Cyber Games qualifiers to Sri Lanka and in turn giving our country the chance to take part in what is considered the Olympics of e-sports.
