One of the toughest challenges of sniper training is the unknown distance test, where snipers must hit a variety of targets at different unknown distances within five seconds.

  • @hernandot3 They said 800 yds, not 800 meters. which comes out to 731 meters. But again, you're shooting targets at an unknown distance and you have to hit it within 5 secs. You miss, you have to adjust in that time frame. Anyone can take their time and hit a target. If you're bragging about hitting a target at 720 with an ACOG, you're a fucking boot.

  • I think you're mistaken. The effective range of the SDM is something like 550m, or 600 yards.

If you can hit a man sized target in 5 seconds without range or windage from a 4x ACOG at 720 meters that is one of the best shots in the world.

  • @xFaLcOnS2b22x No dude, you don't understand, our test was the same thing! Time limit, unknown distance and all that good jazz. When you get to the line, you have 10 minutes to identify as many targets as you can and estimate the range (25.4 x target height in inches, all divided by target height in mils), and then you go down the line and have two chances to take the shot, both with only a few seconds limit (can't remember, but it was no more than 5 per shot). We did the same thing.
