Tom Watters, senior scientist and geologist in the Center for Earth and Planetary Studies, discusses the science & mapping goals of the MESSENGER mission and the events leading up to the spacecraft entering orbit around Mercury. Dr. Watters is a participating scientist on the MESSENGER mission and is actively involved in the identification and analysis of tectonic landforms using images and data obtained from MESSENGER. This informal gallery talk was recorded on September 1, 2010 as part of the National Air and Space Museum's "Ask an Expert" lecture series.
