The moderately strong X-ray flare, 10 times stronger than the flare on August 1st, erupted on August 7, 2010. This flare released a massive cloud of solar plasma that may trigger Aurora on August 9 or 10.
The M1.0 magnitude X-ray flare erupted from the active sunspot region, NOAA AR 11093 (1093) at about 1755 UTC, and peaked at 1824 UTC.
This movie is a series of filtered views of the event as seen by SDO AIA. See the list of filters, below.
A metric type II burst was observed in Humain (Belgium) starting around 1809 UTC, and initial crude analysis reveals a possible full-halo coronal mass ejection (CME) that may arrive between August 9 and August 10, causing geomagnetic disturbance and thus, Aurora. Most likely, the CME is not fully directed toward the Earth, so we'll just see a glancing "blow" as it passes the Earth's magnetosphere.
