One problem MacBook/MacBook Pro users have the fact that their desktop icons move all over the place whenever their screen resolution changes. For example, they may "dock" their computer to a larger display at home, or maybe when connecting the computer to a projector to do a presentation. Whenever the screen resolution changes, the space on the desktop is changed, and therefor icons would appear off screen, so they get moved into view. The problem is, they don't always move BACK to their original spots when the screen size is restored back to what it is supposed to be. In this lucky example, I somehow got it working correctly by using Path Finder - an alternative to the Mac's Finder. In this video, I switch the resolution form 1920 x 1200 (24" external monitor) to 1280 x 800 (13" MacBook Pro screen size) and 1024 x 768 (typical projector size) and as you will notice, the icons move themselves BACK to the correct spots! This is the ONLY time I was ever able to get it to do this, so at least I have a video to show that I know it can be done!
I just wish Apple would fix this problem within thier own Finder. On windows, there are plenty of apps to "save/restore icon positions" and on the Mac, there is no software available for any recent version of Mac OS X.
