Activity Title: Stop

Skills used: Speaking & Writing

Materials: Scoreboard, Stickers, Markers

Directions:
Divide the class into groups of 5-6 students.

Teacher puts the scoreboard on the board and draws one table for each group containing some category headings such as place, action (verb), animal, object, and food.

The teacher chooses a letter from the alphabet.

Let the student guess the words that begin with the given letter in all categories for 5 seconds.

When the teacher says "Go" , the first guesser from each group comes forward to the whiteboard and fills in the table with the correct words beginning with the chosen letter

Let the person who fills in all the blank first say "Stop".

If the person writes correct words in all categories first, that person's group will be given a sticker (as a point).

If the person makes some errors, he/she must sit down, and the teacher says "Go" again and the remaining students can continue the game.

Teacher will set a time limit of 1 minute.

The other team members should keep silent.

Considerations:

We can do the same activity using other category headings such as toy, river, fruit, and so on.

This activity works better if we reduce/increase the number of category headings depending on students' level (beginner, intermediate or advanced).

It works well, if it is used as a warm-up activity to motivate students.
