Inside the mind of a failed Suicide Bomber

CNN reporter Peter Bergen interviews Imadadullah - a would-be suicide bomber apprehended in Afghanistan because his vest failed to explode. Imadadullah is from the Northern Frontier Province of Pakistan. The crude bomb vest he was wearing contained a large quantity of TNT, packed together with newspaper laden with bolts and nails. The newspaper padding is written in Urdu, the language of Pakistan, not Afghanistan, whose national language is Pashtu.

According to terrorism expert "Brian", Imadadullah's vest bears similarities to devices he had come across in Iraq. He speculates that some of the bomb making technology learned in Iraq has filtered into Afghanistan.

In this interview, Imadadullah showed no remorse, saying that "it is written in the holy Koran to do jihad against the infidels." When asked whether by the reporter whether he still harboured hopes of becoming a Shahid (martyr) on his release, Imadadullah answers: "Of course."
