This video captures a spectacular view of a multi-storey iceberg breaking apart in Spillers Cove, Twillingate. Twillingate is also known as the Iceberg Capital of the World. This sleepy fishing village sees numerous of these frozen ancient giants drift down iceberg alley each year and visitors travel from afar to Newfoundland Canada to witness these awe-inspiring phenomena each year. This giant iceberg broke apart on Saturday 5 July 2008 at 3:45 pm in full view of a group of tourist specators who hiked out to the point to view the iceberg - one of the last of the season - and Mother Nature responded with this perfectly timed show. Much of the sound in the video comes from the release of trapped gas in the ice which is made up of age-old pure fresh water. • This brings to my mind that section of Patrick Kavanaugh's "Gaff Topsails" when the boys are out fooling around on a berg in the harbor... I was sure it would flip over at any turn of the page!

  • Wow! Spectacular!

I experienced something similar on my 13th. birthday in NL. I was on a huge iceberg, decided it was too slippery & used a paddle of the rowboat to push myself off...I heard a creak & knew I was in trouble. I rowed like a maniac watching it topple over, waves were huge, when the waves started, I stopped & let the boat roll with the waves until it calmed down. I didn't tell Mom till I was in my 30;s!! haha I think she was still scared!! LOL

  • Wicked... wish I was there to see it in person!

  • that is very loud.

  • I think the tip of the iceberg at 35 seconds looks like Mother Mary.

  • And that's why you don't get too close to them on the water
