A seaweed, native to Japan and other eastern Pacific countries, has invaded the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Undaria pinnatifida was first found in California in 2000, it has slowly moved north into Monterey, Half Moon, and San Francisco Bays. It is a staple of asian diets, better known as "wakame." The Sanctuary and its partners have experimentally removed adults in the hopes of slowing its spread, which is being closely monitored.
