Spargi d'Amaro Pianto Encore at Barbican Centre

Here is Natalie Dessay singing an encore of Lucia's Cabaletta "Spargi D'amaro Pianto" from Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti. She sang this concert at the Barbican Centre on January 26th, 2008. This encore has been posted already by myself, but I am reposting it with better quality and pictures from the concert! Enjoy.

Funny you should notice the coughing -- a neat little fact: At this concert, Dessay was coughing quite a bit, fidgeting, rolling her hands, picking her cuticles, loosing character, and doing other nervous habits. It certainly wasn't her best concert, and the reviews agreed. I think her issue was that for the first half, she wore a Cocktail-type dress, which she was uncomfortable in, but in the second half where she blossomed some more, she was in a two piece pants suit!

I listened to a BBC radio interview Natalie did and she was quite pointed that she didn't want to be in London to do this, as noted below, she thought the the CD spoke for itself. I got the feeling she was less than comfortable. Apparently she doesn't go to London very often either.

I read in an interview that she said that she was very reluctant to do the concert but EMI wanted her to do a concert in order to promote the cd. Not only had she been sick but she felt forced to promote a cd which she felt spoke for itself. I like many of the arias she sang in this performance anyways.
