March 24, 2008: 34M with NS SD40-2 3430 for sole power sounded like a helper set with that baby throttling, 3430 also has a Leslie RS5T horn, although it's a bit out of shape. I even got a toot-toot, LOL. 34M is seen heading through the double crossing at CP Laurel.
Sounds better when the engineer put a bit more air into it.

that def does not sound like a ex-SCL horn but more a ex-con horn

Nice Leslie horn indeed.

Wow -- I counted 47 cars. I wonder what efficiency is like when you only have one unit pulling that much, compared with multiple unit consist. I imagine it would be better, wouldn't it?

That looks like a RS3L with al the bels facing forward.

Great horn. Love the SD40's! We use to get them all the time until CSX sold the local rails to LSRC. LSRC has one former GTW SD40 (#5921 not a dash 2 or 3 either). She is the only unit on this part of the line with a decent horn. All the other units used locally are nearly identical former FURX GP40M-3's and sound the same impotent horn. The LSRC 5921's horn came off a former NW RS11. Check out videos of LSRC 1195 and 5921 to hear it. Again great video!

I remember hearing this go by and thinking it was an Ex CR with a beefed up RS3L. Good catch.
