RFP: The ground at the base of the WTIC tower is approximately 600 feet above sea level. I just hiked through nearby on the Metacomet Trail with a friend this past Saturday. The northerly of the two big towers on Rattlesnake Mtn, for WVIT - NBC30, is the taller of the two. I understand that tower, itself, is approximately 1050 feet tall.

Hi Zero, it seems like you may think I am pulling your leg. I have known Northeast Towers and the Savinos for years. I did make a mistake with what I sent you before, the 1276' is the center of radation. The top of the highest antenna is actually 1338.89' or 408.1 meters AGL. Take a look at the FCC website and go into the "TV Query", type in WTIC in the call letter search. I tried to put the link in this box but it came up with errors.

My goodness! Next time I see one of these guys remind me to invite them a beer.
Hi Zero, I was the RF manager for this station and WTXX for several years. This tower is 1276' to the top of the antenna. Just thought you might want to know.

Right. Above sea level. Isn't elevation at the tower base is somewhere around 800'?

LOL, Not for a million dollars? I'd do it just for the bragging rights. Great video. I'm sure the tower techs enjoyed that you filmed it for them.

LOL!!! Takes a special kind of person to do that work. I've worked personally with many from this crew. I have the deepest respect and admiration for their skills and bravery.
I spoke to the site manager on a visit a few weeks later. He said he was also shooting HD video from the quarry below but probably won't have it edited any time soon. I do hope the boys have seen this and enjoyed it.

why did they take it down only after 1 year of install? was it no longer needed?

Their analog transmitter was getting hammered by the other two TV analog transmitters they shared the candelabra with. They were happy to go digital. No more interference, much less power usage.
