Aboard the westbound California Zephyr riding through the western suburbs from Chicago to Aurora, IL. This section of track, known as the "Racetrack" not only serves Amtrak's two cross country services, the "Southwest Chief" (running from Chicago to L.A.) & the "California Zephyr" (running from Chicago to the Oakland Bay Area--Emeryville, CA), but also several short distance Amtrak trains, BNSF freight traffic & Metra commuter trains which run between Chicago & Aurora. I was taking the California Zephyr to a friend's wedding in Iowa.

  • Do you why by chance why you crossed over at about 14:00 and back on the center track?

  • @177987auprr1 Usually, for some reason the Zephyr uses the center track instead of the outer track. Why we were on the outer track for a while, I'm not sure. Could have to do with the fact that we left over an hour behind schedule.

  • Late night computer chair relaxation at its finest! That was great! Very and peaceful to watch. Nice camera work too. I'm total jealous. I gotta do the Zephyr one of these days before the era of passenger train travel is gone. Again..nice video!

  • The 1 level train one track away was the Wolverine that goes to ann arbor.
